Steven Stamkos scored a power play goal 52 seconds into overtime as the Tampa Bay Lightning defeated the Carolina Hurricanes 4-3 on Tuesday night at Amalie Arena.

Stamkos took a feed from Nikita Kucherov in the slot and fired a shot past Carolina netminder Antti Raanta to send the crowd home happy. The Tampa Bay captain was the direct cause of the power play as it was he who drew the holding call on Hurricanes captain Jordan Staal just 26 seconds into the extra frame.

The Lightning were 3 for 4 on the man advantage & outshot the Hurricanes 32-19 in their first game at home in what seemed like forever.

The Bolts had a good start to the game, picking up the first five shots on goal, but it was the Hurricanes who scored first.

Carolina's Nino Neiderreiter took a feed from Staal behind the net and quickly snapped it past Lightning goaltender Andrei Vasilevskiy to put the visitors up 1-0 on just their first shot of the game at 7:59 of the 1st.

That was the only goal of the opening period, but the Lightning did have the better of the play, outshooting the Hurricanes 10-4.

Tampa Bay did NOT take long to even things up in the 2nd.

Following a hooking call on Carolina defenseman Ian Cole at the end of the first, the Lightning cashed in just 52 seconds into the middle stanza when Alex Killorn snapped one past the blocker of Raanta to even the score at 1-1.

The Hurricanes re-took the lead on a Seth Jarvis deflection past Vasy at 8:41 but the Bolts answered right back 62 seconds later when Victor Hedman snapped one over the glove of Raanta to make it 2-2.

It was a pretty even rest of the period but Carolina took the lead once again when Sebastian Aho deflected a backhanded shot by Tony DeAngelo by Vasilevskiy to put the visitors ahead 3-2 with just over three minutes left in the 2nd.

Tampa Bay pushed and pushed to find the equalizer and after a tripping call at 5:18 of the 3rd on Brett Pesce, they did just that.

Stamkos ripped a one-timer from his office after a feed from Kucherov -- who had 3 assists on the night -- and Brayden Point pounced on the rebound and backhanded it over the glove of Raanta to knot things up at 3-3.

Vasilevskiy had 16 saves for the Lightning for his 34th win of the season. Raanta had 28 saves in defeat for the Hurricanes.
